Bandung, Parijs van Java

Beautiful Bandung

Government Building, the Iconic Gedung Sate (1920)

A plateau surrounded by hills and mountains, Bandung is the capital city of West Java Province. In the old days under the Dutch colony, Bandung was called 'Parijs van Java' because of its mistical beauty. Take a look at how it was here.

Today, besides its beautiful landscape that's make it an ideal gateway for leisure, Bandung is also the center of fashion (supported by many textile industries in this area) and culinary. Shopping atmosphere is nearly everywhere, and Bandung has now become favourite tourist destination in Indonesia, ranked just after Bali.

How to Get There

There're daily direct international  flights form Kuala Lumpur (Airasia) and Singapore (Airasia, Silk Air) to Bandung and vice versa. Bandung's Hussein Sastranegara Airport is located in the city center, it's only 15 minutes taxi drive to tourist area at Ir.H.Juanda Str (also known as Dago Street).
If you opt other hub than the two cities above, you can go Jakarta, and then take a bus/car from Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta Airport. There're many travel operator offers shuttle service from Soekarno-Hatta Airport to many destinations/address in Bandung, e.g X-Trans  and Primajasa . It's only 1.5 - 2 hours journey through a highway (except you got trapped in Jakarta's famously known traffic jam ;) )

Where To Stay

If shopping for apparel and fabrics is your goal, you'll like to stay at Ir.H.Juanda Street (Dago Street) where famous Factory Outlets (FO) ready to welcome you along this road. Other area with major factory outlets is Jl.LLRE Martadinata (a.k.a Riau Street) and Setiabudi Street.

There're many hotels in Dago and Riau district, ranges from budget to 5-star, from boutique to condominium. By staying at Hotel Anggrek, Hotel Santika, Holiday Inn, or Luxton , you're within walking distance to FOs in both districts. But, because those FOs in Dago and Riau are clustered in 5 km radius, you can go from one to another FO easily by public transportation, the angkot.

If you come to Bandung to enjoy its nature, there're two choices: Northern Dago, or Lembang. Hotels at northern Dago includes Marbella Dago Pakar, a 5-star hotel which has beautiful swimming pool overlooking hills, while Lembang's (or Jl. Setiabudi) hotels are dominated by 2 and 3-star small hotels like Casa D'Ladera, Grand Hotel Lembang. 5-star hotel in Lembang is  Grand Universal
At the time this post is written, Mercure Hotel is under construction at Jalan Setiabudi and projected for opening by the end of 2014.

What To Do
